Airfix EE Lightning F. 2A 1:72 (build review)

Built by Brett Green in the current issue of Air Modeller, this is the new tool Airfix Lightning and my kit is going together pretty well. Even at this early stage of the build it is looking pretty impressive. One small problem- I just couldn't get the two fuselage halves to join up at the front - see second image. There's some nice compressor fan detail at the front although not much room for the weight to prevent a tail sitter, so I'll probably end up using the FOD intake cover which is also supplied. I've invested in some "Rub n' Buff" for the jet pipes and intake..

  1. That's quite a big gap on the nose - what was stopping the two halves meeting?

  2. really don't know - I fettled away at the intake and shaved the cockpit down, but then started to see a bit of lip behind the intake ..and still the two halves wouldn't come together...canopy and coaming part fit OK too

  3. Odd, and a tad annoying. Still, not in an awkward place for filling and sanding. These new Airfix 1/72s really are good.

  4. yes I do like them, but having built many of them I'm starting to wish fit was a little better overall in the smaller scale. The 48th scale kits I've done/doing (Spitfire XII, Sea Vixen) are excellent in that respect!
