Revell Bf 109 G-6 in 32nd

This model blog has just finished a Revell G-6 in 32nd scale OOB - a first build of this kit that has been in the stash for some 13 years now! It's a decent kit, goes together reasonably well - except for the horrible spinner arrangement - and is here finished in AK Real Colors. The spinner spiral was masked and painted as were the fuselage 'Bauchbinde'. As usual I bought some Quick Boost add-ons (bulges, charger intake) and then decided that really the kit parts were just as good so the model was finished OOB in the kit markings - this is a late-war machine with the tall tail and Erla Haube to represent the machine as flown by the Gruppenkommandeur III./JG 5 ace Franz Dörr. Dörr achieved around 120 victories, his last in late October 1944 in the Eismeer Geschwader flying over the Far North.

below;  essentially the same kit - in the G-10 version - as built by Auguste Kleinpeter to represent 'yellow 8' of 9./JG 300

DBMK 1:32 Hornet Mk. 3 - built up and on the table at IPMS East Kent club night last week

I just came across Brett Green's video 'unboxing' of the DBMK 1:32 Hornet - see below. A single click to watch without leaving this page. Here in deepest Kent we've already had the chance to build this kit and present the finished model to the club last week at our model club night. Built by Mr Bill Clark this will no doubt also be appearing in a forthcoming issue of Scale Aircraft Modelling. The parts are smooth and feature some finely recessed panel lines - the Hornet was a wooden machine like the Mosquito. The kit includes a separate box of 3D printed parts supplied by Scalex in the Ukraine - these include pilot's seat, gun sight and hollowed-out exhausts. The kit also features ordnance such as 1000 lb bombs along with rockets. Please note that this model is genuinely limited run, with the likely maximum available being 1,250 units - if you want one, get in quick!

A look in the box - Airfix new-tool superkit Bf 109 G-6 unveiled at SMW Telford (2025)

Gary from 'Gary's Stuff' dives into the box and shows us some of the plastic along with a detailed overview of the instruction manual  - this is the new-tool Airfix Bf 109 G-6 unveiled at SMW 2025. There is more on this kit on my 'FalkeEins -Luftwaffe blog' with photos of the 'real' airframe but when the model arrives I shall most likely build it here. A single click on the 'red triangle' to view here..

Also announced at Telford SMW 2025 was a new Kotare Emil in 32nd and Revell have added some new parts to their 32nd Me 262 for the 'one-off' 'Pulk' destroyer variant of the Me 262. Designed by Radi Brinzan - responsible for the Kotare K-4- the Kotare Emil was 'lidar-ed' from the Bf 109 E at RAF Hendon and is due out in Q2-A3 of 2026.

new tool DBMK Model Kits RAF Hornet in 32nd scale - a first 'feel' - DBMK Sea Fury in 32nd

Second Tuesday of the month is club night at East Kent Scale Modellers. Will from DBMK was present with some of the Hornet sprues at our July club night a few weeks ago

".. DH.103 Hornet test shots in 1/32. It is coming - it is going to be very accurate - it is going to be big. We were overjoyed to receive the test shots for our Hornet last week. We are just finishing off the design of the decals, PE and 3-D printed parts. You will be able to make an F.1, PR.2 or F.3 from the kit. This will be a limited run kit. More news to follow - we hope to have it ready for Telford. Sprues will be on display at the Farnborough show..".

At one point Will (from DBMK) disappeared to get a cuppa. Before we could stop him, Dick suddenly ripped the parts off the sprues and started assembling them! I managed to get some pics. Note the £2 coin for scale...

Mr Bill Clark is also a member of East Kent Scale modellers - this is his build of one of the first 'test' shots of the 1/32nd DBMK Sea Fury - due soon along with a full build report in Scale Aircraft Modelling

DBMK (DB Model Kits) 1:32 Sea Fury test shot builds

Colleagues at East Kent Scale modellers have been fortunate enough to have been given the chance to build this new 'super-kit' due out later this year by new company DBMK. Their efforts were on show and up for discussion at our latest club night last week, held as usual as the RAF Manston history museum. Both Bill and Dick who constructed these two were working without instructions. Dick built his unpainted. We've mentioned DBMK before on this blog as they have a number of new kits in preparation including a 1:48 Scimitar..

And the Dutch Sea Fury built from the kit by Rod as displayed at Telford IPMS SMW 2025

Italeri 1/32 Tornado built as an 'Op.Granby' Tornado GR 1

A new member of the East Kent Scale Modellers group is Mr. Bill Clark. His latest model was photographed on display at our last club night.

This is the Italeri 1/32 Tornado built as ZA 465 'Foxy Killer', an 'Op.Granby' Tornado GR 1 using the Italeri IDS kit as the basis, borrowing appropriate parts from Revell's GR1. This includes parts for the bomb rack and the larger RAF 'Hindenburger' drop tanks. This fine model is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Scale Aircraft Modelling.

From the sublime to the ridiculous - Kotare and Beacon Models Spitfire Mk I in 32nd and 144th scales

Here are two 'new' model companies that deserve every tiny scrap of 'publicity' going. Both have opted for Spitfires as their first releases to really 'launch' their respective companies.

Kotare is the Mark Robson/Richard Alexander entreprise that has risen 'phoenix-like' from the demise of Wingnut Wings. A beautiful 32nd scale Spitfire I is their first release and thanks to Rod, the East Kent Scale modellers club got the chance to examine the box at a recent club meet. Apologies for the poor lighting.

Beautifully produced handbook/instruction manual. Complete with rigging guide!

Flawlessly molded parts. But a relatively low parts count - only around 140. Resin exhausts  - but no engine. The decal sheet is A-4 size and 'printed in Italy'  - probably Cartograph, but not stated. Did you know that a Cartograph decal sheet in a box costs the model producer as much as the plastic?  This is such a nice package it looks too 'nice' to build  - I'm sure that they will be snapped up by collectors whatever..

But....as much as I wish Kotare well, I do have to point out that RRP at around £95 (certainly in the UK) is as much as a 430-part Airfix 24th scale Spit IX !

One of the markings options in the kit is the 234 Sqn machine 'Dirty Dick' forced down by JG 53 during August 1940.

More reference photos on my 'Jet & Prop' blog here

Moving on to the new Beacon Models  Spitfire Mk I vs Bf  109 E-4 'Dogfight Set' contains a Mk I and an Emil in 1:144th. Model build by Callum. (..and no, I'm not employing the term 'model kit-set' here..ever!)
3-D printed airfield 'dispersal scene' also available.

Wing Nut Wings Gotha G.1 (Grossflugzeug) bomber in 32nd scale by Rod Janes

no, I haven't built the WnW Gotha G.1 ....but I do know someone who has.  Mr Rod Janes of the Medway and East Kent Scale modellers clubs. His build of this kit was on show at our first club meet of 2023 held at the RAF Manston History Museum.  The Gotha G.1 (G= Grossflugzeug, or 'large aeroplane') was a large (natch!) and somewhat unconventional twin engine bomber type built in small numbers and may even have participated in a raid on Dover during 1916. It was one of the first Gothaer Waggonfabrik bombers and forerunner of the even larger Kampfflugzeug types the company became known for.  The 1914 German Army Type III spec for a Kampfflugzeug ('battle plane') called for a 200hp  three-seater able to maintain 120 km/h for six hours carrying 450 kg of bombs. The kit from the now defunct WnW has well over 300 parts and there's one currently on offer on ebay via 'Mainly Military' at only £199...

Here's Rod at our club meet showing off his large model. At some stage in the future all of Rod's one hundred plus WNW builds will be on display in the museum at Manston. Note the 'neat' transportation aid in the lower photo - the model is placed on household scouring sponges....

new-tool 32nd scale Revell P-51 D (early) has arrived - first look in the box

While many would undoubtedly have liked to see a new tooled B model Revell's latest release is an early (no tail filet) P-51 D. Since building their 32nd scale Spitfire IX earlier this year I've been rather taken with this series of kits from Revell -unbeatable value and nicely detailed too. And while I have the Trumpeter 32nd scale 'B' in the stash there are a lot of issues with it. Anyway that's for another time. Meanwhile this latest Revell kit looks the biz! For a start from what I have seen of the test shots and builds for the release of this kit it does have the wheel wells going back to the rear spar which most manufacturers get wrong on the P-51. The wheel wells are correctly depicted with the straight rear "wall" (i.e., the front of the forward wing spar) as well as separate parts for the ribs and structural details. NICE! For around £30 instead of £130 for Tamiya's P-51 in this scale, this should be a huge hit for Revell. I got mine from Model Hobbies inc of postage for under £30 although I believe RRP is around £36. First thing that struck me is that there are an awful lot of build stages to complete before you get anywhere near to putting the fuselage halves together - lots of detail! Revell really appear to be pulling out the stops on this 32nd range - good luck to 'em!

Below; note upper and lower wings in just two parts - no issues with dihedral or 'droop'. Separate rear fuselage/tail for the later versions. Loads of cockpit detail parts and a huge decal sheet for 'Desert Rat' of the 357th FG or 'Lou IV' of the 361st.
